How an address gets on the listAdd an addressRemove an addressIf Remote Desktop stops connectingEach computer keeps a list of network addresses (IP addresses) that can reach it with Remote Desktop. Your IP address is the one your internet connection uses, so it changes when you change network. The list does not affect browser sessions.
How an address gets on the list
- When the computer is created, the creator's address goes on as the Creation IP.
- When someone clicks Download RDP file, their current address is added automatically. This works for admins and for the employee assigned to the computer.
- When an admin clicks Add my current IP on the Networking tab.
- When an admin types one in, using the steps below.
The Added by column shows Creation, Manual or API. API means it was added automatically.
Add an address
Company admins do this. The computer must be running.
- Click Computers in the sidebar.
- Click the computer's name.
- Click the Networking tab.
- Click Add IP address.
- Type a Label, such as Home office.
- Type the IP address or range. A range looks like
203.0.113.0/24. - Click Add IP address in the dialog.
Remove an address
- Click the menu at the end of its row.
- Click Remove.
- Click Remove IP address.
At least one address must stay on the list. The menu also has Edit. You can rename the Creation IP, but you cannot change its address.
If Remote Desktop stops connecting
Your address has probably changed. Click Download RDP file again from where you are now. The Networking tab warns you when your current address is not on the list, and marks yours with This device.
Connecting through a VPN gives you a different address, so add the one you use when connected.
If the address that was added contains colons, it is an IPv6 address. Remote Desktop may need your other address too, so ask your admin to add it, or contact our team.
