My bank asks me to approve a card or payment

Some banks ask you to confirm a card or a charge. Approve it in the window that appears, and the payment carries on.

On this pageWhat to doWhen it happens at renewal

Some banks want to check that it is really you before they allow a card or a charge. A window from your bank opens over the page. Your bank decides what it asks for.

This can happen when you:

  • Save a new card.
  • Buy something, such as a computer, a disk, or a plan.
  • Pay a balance.

What to do

  1. Keep the page open.
  2. Complete your bank's check in the window that appears.
  3. Wait for the page to finish.

If your bank says no, or you close the window, you see a message such as "Your bank did not confirm this card. Please try again or use a different card." Try again, or use another card.

When it happens at renewal

A renewal happens without you there, so your bank cannot ask you at that moment. The payment waits, and your account shows as past due until you confirm it. See my bank needs me to confirm a past-due payment.
